Because expanding and improving our breeding program bloodlines is so important, we work with Guardian Homes to ensure our dogs have the best possible forever home from an early age. This allows us to place the highest quality puppies that have been individually selected from the best of litters in your home at no initial cost to you. It allows for dogs and puppies to be raised in a family home where they are loved and will experience all the benefits that come with the daily life of their own family.

Many breeders, like us, use a Guardian Home Program. Our Guardian Home Program allows us to expand our dog breeding program the right way. Oh My Doodness retains breeding rights of the dog for a set period of time. For females, this starts at sexual maturity and ends once the female has successfully whelped four litters. Male stud contracts tend to be longer, based on contract term or max age, and must be made available to breed as needed.

While the dog is in our breeding program, Oh My Doodness will cover all breeding program related expenses.  Guardian Homes are responsible for all standard vet expenses and daily care, including but not limited to regular grooming, food, vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, and training. When the dog has reached an appropriate age as well as completed and passed their genetic and health testing, they will then be considered eligible to begin breeding.

There are several things that a Guardian Family is responsible for. Guardians of females are responsible for managing heat cycles and keeping their girl protected from unwanted matings and be comfortable being away from their dog for an extended period of time with each litter. We certainly encourage you to visit during the time she is with us. The Guardian Family will need to learn the signs of a heat cycle and be willing to commit to real time communication during this time. Male dogs may only mate with females approved by Oh My Doodness. The Guardian Home is responsible for keeping the male away from intact female dogs. Guardians of intact males will need to consider the importance of keeping him properly contained to prevent unwanted litters and maintain sexual health.

If you are interested in becoming a Guardian Home, consider the following:

    • Allow for a home visit and provide references prior to the puppy being placed

    • Have a fenced yard or safe containment space for the dog and ensure their safety at all times

    • Live within 30 miles of 48328

    • Feed a recommended diet of Purina Pro Plan (or other agreed upon brand)

    • Grant full access to veterinary records to Oh My Doodness for the duration of contract

    • Provide basic training that includes, house, leash, crate training, and basic obedience

    • Maintain regular brushing of coat, and have the dog professionally groomed every 8 weeks or less.

    • No plans of relocating within the next five years.

    • Understand that we are placing the highest quality dog with you and making an investment in them in exchange for your agreement to be a Guardian Home - you must be willing and able to engage in timely and effective communication as well as meet the contract requirements contributing to successful breeding.

If you are interested in becoming a guardian home for Oh My Doodness and agree with the above requirements, please send us an email at ohmydoodness@yahoo.com.
